Surgical technique: Shaving the vitreous base in a case of significant anterior pathology

This video describes an old but a recently found again technique of how to best visualize and shave the vitreous base. In this patient with a penetrating keratoplasty and difficult peripheral views, it would require an assistant to depress the eye in order to get to the retinal periphery to remove the vitreous. In this technique a chandelier is inserted into the existing superior trocar site and the surgeon uses one hand to shave the vitreous base with the micro vitrectomy instrument and depress the eye externally with the other hand.
